CMRRA is the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency and my second project for them involved redesigning their main website as a bilingual, responsive WordPress site. The new website provides information about the company and what they do as well as linking to a number of CMRRA’s web applications.

President Caroline Rioux had a clear idea of how she wanted the new website to look. She knew she wanted a large amount of white space with contrasting areas of colour and provided a number of examples of the type of aesthetic she was looking for. I then took her reference material and crafted an original design that incorporated the best aspects of all of her examples.

For the landing page of the website I created a layout with four distinct sections: a wide banner at the top of the page that can be used for single images or slides, a group of three boxes linking to key areas of the website, a list of the latest news articles and a featured box for CMPA magazine. The slideshow area and featured boxes utilize WordPress custom post types so that they can easily be updated by CMRRA staff. I used the same method to load the grid of pictures linking to detailed bios for the company’s Board of Directors and the similar grid for the management team.

I created the website using responsive design techniques so that the entire website adapts to the screen width on which it is viewed to present the optimal user experience regardless of how the website is accessed.

Because the website required content to be in both english and french I used WPML a licensed WordPress plugin to achieve a bilingual framework.
